Coloplast Biatain Ag silver is a brand of foam wound dressings that absorb moderate to heavy levels of exudate while still keeping the wound moist. These dressings release silver, which has antimicrobial properties. This helps fight off infection without harming healthy tissue. Silver also reduces the pain associated with ulcers, burns, and cuts. Biatain Ag silver wound dressings can be worn for up to seven days before needing to be changed. They are available with or without an adhesive waterproof border. A non-adhesive bandage is ideal for those with sensitive skin.
Before applying wound dressings, it is important to disinfect the wound and the surrounding skin using a Dermal Wound Cleanser. This product helps prevent infection and cleans any debris from the wound bed. It also keeps the wound moist, which promotes quick healing. We sell wound cleansers in spray bottles, which prevent you from having to touch the wound. The cleanser does not need to be rinsed off before applying a bandage and no scrubbing is required. Wound cleansing formulas are designed so that they will not sting or irritate the skin.
BZK Antiseptic Wipes can also be used to sanitize a wound prior to bandaging. The active ingredient, benzalkonium chloride, is known to prevent cuts and burns from becoming infected. BZK towelettes can also be used to cleanse the skin before inserting an intermittent or indwelling catheter. Because these wipes are free of alcohol, they are ideal to use on any part of the body and will not cause a burning sensation. They are individually wrapped and compact, making them ideal for first aid kits and more convenient for taking on the go.
A waterproof Tegaderm Bandage is a great option to help heal and protect a cut or burn. These transparent adhesive dressings allow you to monitor the condition of your wound without having to remove the bandage. The unique material is flexible and breathable, helping your wound heal quickly. Tegaderm dressings are sterile and are designed to resist bacteria. We also carry Tegaderm dressings that have a pad to absorb exudate. 3M Nexcare is a popular and well-trusted brand of tegaderm bandages.
If you choose to use a non-adhesive foam dressing, it can be held in place with sterile gauze, medical tape, or a Coban Wrap. These compression wraps are made of an elastic material that adheres to itself, but will not stick to the wound dressing or the wound itself. Metal clips are not required to secure the wrap. 3M compression bands can also be adjusted to apply pressure if needed. The coban material is water-resistant, so it will protect the dressing beneath it while showering. If you have a latex allergy, Coban is also available in a latex-free version.
