Spenco 2nd Skin is a brand of wound care products that helps protect blisters and burns from further damage. Items like hydrogel dressings, blister pads, and moist burn pads are designed to absorb exudate without sticking to the wound. They cushion the wound while it heals and help prevent scarring. Spenco 2nd skin products are ideal to keep on hand in a first aid kit to care for minor wounds. Severe burns and wounds should be evaluated by a physician before being treated.
Sterile Gauze can also be used to cover wounds and absorb fluid. It is also used to protect incision sites from damage. Gauze is available in rolls or in individual, pre-cut squares. A gauze bandage roll is ideal for keeping wound dressings in place. They can also be wrapped around an area and adjusted to apply light compression. Gauze sponges and pads are squares of layered gauze that are used for wounds with heavy drainage. We also carry gauze dressing that is coated with a patrolatum blend, which prevents bacteria growth and controls odor.
Gauze can be secured to the body using Medical Tape. There are several types of tape to choose from, including paper tape, plastic tape, and cloth tape. Paper tape is ideal to use when bandages need to be changed frequently. Plastic tapes are waterproof and flexible, making them great for irregular areas of the body. Cloth tape is also very flexible and can be adjusted easily in case of inflammation. All of these tapes are hypoallergenic and are gentle on skin. Wound tape can also be used to hold catheters in place and secure ostomy pouches to the body. For more information, please see our medical tape guide.
Frequently applying and removing tape from the skin can cause irritation and skin damage. Using a Skin Prep solution before applying adhesive dressings or medical tape helps reduce friction and shields delicate skin. It forms a protective barrier that is transparent and breathable. This barrier also helps tape and dressings hold securely. Skin prep is safe to use on damaged skin and will not delay wound healing. You can choose from individually-wrapped wipes, spray bottles, or swabsticks.
