Coloplast Conveen is a line of urological supplies for men, including external catheters and urine bags. These two items are used in conjunction to drain and collect urine from the body. Unlike foley catheters and intermittent catheters, an external catheter is not inserted into the body. Instead, it is simply rolled onto the outside of the penis. It is important that the catheter fits properly so that it does not fall off or restrict the penis. Conveen catheters feature an adhesive coating on the inside, which also helps keep the catheter in place all day. After the condom catheter is applied, clear tubing is attached. The catheter tubing is then connected to a catheter bag to contain urine.
Before applying an external catheter, it is important to use a Skin Prep solution. Skin prep wipes form a protective layer over the skin while still allowing it to breathe. It protects against friction as well as the adhesive that is on the inside of some condom catheters. These barrier wipes also shield the skin from urine, which can cause irritation if exposed to the skin for an extended period of time. External catheters adhere to prepped skin better than bare skin. It forms a better seal between the penis and the condom catheter. The catheter can then wear for a longer period of time and is less likely to fall off.
We carry a leg bag as well as a night bag from Conveen. Both are designed to collect drainage from an external urinary catheter or Foley Catheter. A leg bag is worn on the thigh or calf during the day, while an overnight bag hangs next to the bed while you're sleeping. An overnight catheter bag is larger and holds more liquid, preventing you from having to empty it in the middle of the night. One way to hold your leg bag in place is with straps. Leg bags can either have built-in straps or you can purchase them separately. The straps can be made of fabric or latex, and close via buttons or velcro. Your leg bag can also be kept in place with a stretchy fabric holder that slips onto the leg and has a pocket for the drainage bag to fit into.
Coloplast also makes SpeediCath Compact intermittent catheters for men and women with incontinence. These disposable catheters are only kept in the body while the bladder is draining. They are small and self-lubricated, making these urinary catheters convenient to use on the go. They have a hydrophilic coating that makes the catheter surface slick, reducing the amount of pressure you need to apply during catheter insertion. This lowers the risk of damaging your urethra. Speedicaths are available with a straight tip or a bent tip. If you are a male with a swollen prostate, the angled coude tip makes catheter insertion more comfortable than a straight tip catheter. The bent tip is easier to manuever past the tight opening.
