Red Rubber Catheter

Red rubber catheters are intermittent catheters made from natural latex. This red rubber latex is softer and more flexible than silicone and vinyl catheters. Each red rubber catheter has a funnel-shaped end that makes drainage easy and less messy. They also have opposing drainage eyelets, which allow urine to flow out of the bladder quickly.

Intermittent catheters come in various materials, such as vinyl and PVC. Some are also pre-lubricated, so no additional lube is required. All of the intermittent catheters we carry come individually wrapped for a sterile bladder catheterization procedure.

Types of Red Rubbers

Red rubber catheters are available in several lengths, french sizes, and tip styles. Please note that if you have a latex allergy, you should not use red rubbers.

Straight-Tip

A straight tip catheter is a standard style and an ideal starting point for those who are new to cathing. They are available in different lengths to fit male and female urethras. Shorter catheters are intended for female use only, but women can also safely use the longer catheters that men must use.

Coude-Tip

If it is uncomfortable or difficult for you to insert a straight tip catheter, you may want to try a coude tip catheter. The end of the catheter is angled, which can navigate through tight openings. This makes the urinary catheterization procedure easier for men who have an enlarged prostate or for people with urethral blockages.

Closed-System Kits with Red Rubbers

Express Medical Supply carries closed-system catheter kits that contain a red rubber catheter, as well as other styles of intermittent catheters. A closed system consists of a collection bag that has an intermittent catheter inside the bag. This prevents you from having to touch the catheter at all. It is sterile, self-contained, and pre-lubricated. If you do not have access to a toilet, the drainage bag takes its place by collecting urine from the catheter. There is a cap over the end of the catheter that protects the tip until it comes time to use the catheter. All of these features allow for the most sanitary cathing experience, preventing UTIs and other complications.

Lubricating Jelly

If the intermittent catheter you choose to use is not pre-lubricated or hydrophilic, adding a lubricating jelly allows for smoother insertion. Incorporating lubricant helps reduce the amount of pressure needed to insert the catheter. Applying too much pressure while inserting the catheter can damage the urethra. Using a sterile, water-soluble formula also lessens the risk of infection.
