What is a hydrogel dressing?
A hydrogel dressing is a water-dense gel that keeps wounds moist and encourages healing. These dressings come in several formats including a gel cream, impregnated pads, and more.
Hydrogel dressings are made of up to 90% water and are not very absorbent. This makes them ideal for use on dry wounds. They hydrate the wound bed and provide a cooling sensation that reduces pain. The hydrogel also fills in wound contours to eliminate dead space that can cause infection. Most of the hydrogels we carry are packaged in tubes.
Hydrogels are also available in the form of gel patches and sheet dressings. The gel patches can easily be placed on smaller wounds such as blisters and minor burns. They are available in the shape of squares and circles. Hydrogel sheet dressings are transparent, allowing you to monitor the condition of your wound. They are designed not to adhere to the wound and can help prevent scarring. These hydrogel dressings can be cut to fit your particular wound.
