Will 2013 Bring a New You?

Jan 18th 2013

Start 2013 calendarHappy New Year from everyone at OstomyHelp.com!   We are hopeful that you had a wonderful time of celebration and renewal over the holidays.  2013 is upon us and we are already past the midpoint of January.  Which leads to today's question... How are those New Year's Resolutions holding up?

New Year's Eve has always been a time for reflecting on the past, and more importantly looking to the future.  It is a time to assess where we are as people and identify areas of our lives that we want, or need, to change for the better.

If you are like me, you gained a few pounds from Thanksgiving through Christmas.  Or maybe you simply looked in the mirror in the days leading up to New Year's Eve and made the promise to "get in shape this year".  Some of you may have resolved to quit smoking.  Perhaps some of you resolved to get better organized in your daily lives; or simply to spend more time with friends and family.

Most of us face the New Year with great ambition and visions of sweeping change. That is until we stumble and fall short on one of those goals.  If we are not 100% successful right out of the gate, we have a tendency to drop the resolution and carry on as normal.

More than anything, I would love for us all to remember to not be so hard on ourselves this year.  We WILL stumble, we WILL fail at times.  What makes us better year after year is not 100% success at reaching all of our goals, rather it is getting back up after being knocked down again and again.  Continually striving to make the difficult changes, even when we don’t think we can, makes us grow and change for the better.

So in 2013, let us look ahead to our successes.  Let us celebrate the small accomplishments.  Let us continue to move forward despite our failures.  Let us treat every day as if it is New Year’s Eve, a chance for a new beginning.

Now it is time for me to put down the chips and hit the treadmill, again.
