Description

An MDI is a device that delivers medication in the form of an aerosol to those with breathing difficulties such as asthma or COPD. Breatherite is a brand of MDI spacers, which are used along with a metered dose inhaler to help deliver a more consistent and accurate dose of medication. MDI spacers also allow more medication to reach the lungs instead of getting trapped in the inhalation tube or mouth. They are made of a special type of anti-static plastic that prevents the medication from adhering to the MDI chamber or tubing. This assures that you are receiving the proper amount of medication you need for full breathing function. These hand held machines can be used with or without a nebulizer mask.

Compressor Nebulizers are similar to metered dose inhalers, but a mask is required for use. Liquid medication is put into a container, which connects to the compressor nebulizer by way of tubing. The nebulizer then transforms the liquid medication into a mist, which is inhaled by the patient. It usually takes around 20 minutes to complete the breathing treatment. An MDI is smaller in size than a nebulizer and usually delivers medication quicker than a nebulizer. For these reasons, many people use a nebulizer at home and take an MDI with them on the go. It is important to talk to your physician about which respiratory treatment is best for you. Please see our blog for instructions on how to clean a nebulizer.

People with lung disease, COPD, asthma, and other respiratory complications can also use supplemental oxygen to improve lung function. Oxygen concentrators are designed to take the oxygen in the air, compress it, and filter out any unnecessary substances. The filtered air is then delivered to the patient through clear tubing. The air is delievered in short pulses rather than a steady stream. This makes it less detectable to the user and prevents the nose and throat from becoming dry. We carry a stationary oxygen concentrator as well as a smaller, more portable model. Express Medical Supply also sells many Oxygen Supplies such as oxygen masks, cannulas, and tubing.

Another breathing condition known as sleep apnea is characterized by irregular inhalation patterns while sleeping. Those with sleep apnea need to have a steady stream of oxygen delievered to them throughout the night via a CPAP device. Many CPAP machines have a built in humidifier, which prevenst the nasal passages from drying out. The air pressure level can also be adjusted to provide maximum comfort. Many people prefer to have lower air pressure while falling asleep and program the CPAP machine to automatically increase air pressure later when they are sleeping.
