Hollister Ostomy Solutions for Odor Control

Hollister has a complete line of ostomy supplies, they offer one piece and two piece ostomy systems, rings and seals, and many different ostomy accessories. I have discussed the new Cera Plus ostomy products that Hollister has made and how they help with skin care. Cera Plus is such a great solution for helping your skin stay healthy that I realized I have neglected the other things that Hollister does well. Hollister Ostomy has two products that work to control odors associated with ostomy output.

Hollister m9: Odor Eliminator Drops

Odor eliminator drops are a liquid that helps stop odor before it starts because it is an odor neutralizer, not a perfume or masking agent. One of the things that I like about this product is that it is unscented. There is no cloyingly sweet or chemical floral smell, it works as a odor neutralizer so it removes odor, it doesn't just mask it with something else. This is an easy to use product, just put 10 to 12 drops inside your ostomy pouch before you put it on and you are good to go. This product is available in a full size bottle but it is also available in a small travel bottle. I think this is a convenient way to travel with m9. The small bottle can easily fit inside your ostomy travel bag or pocket. Hollister m9 odor eliminator drops are not a pouch lubricant so if pancaking or pouch static is a concern you will want to try Hollister Adapt lubricating deodorant.

How to Use Hollister m9 Drop Deodorizer

1. Use a clean ostomy pouch, it can be closed-end or drainable, and either one piece or two piece
2. Put 10 to 12 drops inside of the clean pouch
3. This can be done while the pouch is attached to the wafer or before it is attached
4. When the pouch is 3/4 of the way full, empty or discard the pouch like normal and then add new drops to the new and clean pouch

Hollister Adapt: Ostomy Appliance Lubricating Deodorant

Hollister Adapt lubricating deodorant accomplishes two things. One, it eliminates odors before they begin, this is not a perfume. It is an odor neutralizer. Second, Adapt lubricates the inside of your ostomy pouch which prevents pancaking, pouch static, and helps make it easier to drain your ostomy pouch. If you are not using a drainable pouch you can still benefit from using Adapt lubricating deodorant because the lubricant coats the inside of the pouch so when output enters the pouch it is more likely to fall to the bottom of the pouch. Pancaking is when stomal output gets stuck at the top of the pouch and blocks the entrance to the pouch. Pancaking causes leaks and can cause stomal output to come into contact with your stoma and the skin surrounding your stoma. Adapt lubricating deodorant is safe to use inside your ostomy pouch, I have heard of people using cooking oil or spray as pouch lubricants and I think Adapt is a better choice. It is skin tested and will not harm your skin or your stoma. Unlike cooking spray or oil, Adapt lubricating deodorant will not cause adhesion problems for your wafer or flange. Adapt is designed to be used with your ostomy system and cooking spray is not.

How to Use Hollister Adapt Lubricating Deodorant

1. Use a clean ostomy pouch, it can be closed-end or drainable, and either one piece or two piece
2. Empty the packet or add 1 teaspoon from the bottle into the clean pouch
3. This can be done while the pouch is attached to the flange/wafer or before it is attached
4. Spread the lubricating deodorant inside the pouch by rubbing the pouch back and forth and squishing the pouch sides together to make sure the pouch is completely coated on the inside
5. When the pouch is 3/4 of the way full, empty or discard the pouch like normal and then add Adapt liquid to the new and clean pouch
